The Book of Revelation contains sections that appear to recap past events, particularly in Revelation 12, which describes a vision of a woman, a child, and a dragon. This passage presents symbolic imagery that many interpret as referring to past events while also connecting them to future prophetic fulfillment.

Revelation 12:1-5 (A Recap of Past Events)

  1. The Woman Clothed with the Sun – Often interpreted as Israel or the faithful people of God.

  2. The Child (Jesus) – The male child who is "to rule all nations with a rod of iron" (Revelation 12:5) is widely understood as Jesus Christ.

  3. The Dragon (Satan) is described as trying to devour the child, linking to Herod's attempt to kill Jesus at His birth (Matthew 2:16).

  4. The Child Caught Up to God – Represents Jesus' ascension after His resurrection.

This part of Revelation recounts key moments in salvation history—Jesus' birth, Satan’s opposition, and Christ’s victory—before shifting into future events.

Revelation 12:7-9 (The War in Heaven)

  • The vision then describes Satan being cast out of heaven, a possible reference to either:

    • A past event (Isaiah 14:12, Luke 10:18: "I saw Satan fall like lightning"), OR

    • A future event linked to the end times, when Satan is fully expelled from access to heaven.

Why Does Revelation Include a Recap?

  • To give context for the ongoing battle between good and evil.

  • To establish Jesus’ victory over Satan, showing that future judgments are part of a greater divine plan.

  • To connect past events with prophetic fulfillment, demonstrating how history repeats in spiritual warfare.

What will we all do in heaven?

The Bible provides insights into the activities believers will engage in while in heaven:

1. Worship and Communion with God

Believers will experience profound worship and direct communion with God and Jesus. Revelation 7:9-10 depicts a multitude praising God and the Lamb, reflecting the centrality of worship in heaven.

2. Fellowship with Saints and Angels

Heaven will be a place of joyful assembly, where believers from all eras come together. Hebrews 12:22-23 describes this gathering, highlighting the fellowship among the redeemed and angels.

3. Service to God

Believers will actively serve God. Revelation 22:3 states that His servants will serve Him, indicating purposeful and fulfilling service in the divine presence.

4. Meaningful Work

In the renewed creation, believers will engage in meaningful work. Isaiah 65:21-23 portrays them building houses and planting vineyards, signifying productive and satisfying labor without the burdens of toil.

5. Rest and Peace

Heaven offers rest from earthly struggles. Revelation 14:13 mentions that those who die in the Lord will rest from their labors, emphasizing a state of peace and rejuvenation.

6. Reigning with Christ

Believers will share in Christ’s reign. 2 Timothy 2:12 affirms that if we endure, we will also reign with Him, suggesting roles of authority and responsibility in God’s eternal kingdom.

These activities underscore a dynamic and fulfilling existence in heaven, centered on worship, community, service, and purposeful engagement in God’s presence.
